Amazing Survey Response Rate!
January 28, 2009

Oh My God!
Well, I have to say a massive thank you to all of you who have taken part in my survey!!
I have had a huge amount of responses, it has been incredible! I posted the survey on Sunday evening, and by yesterday I had nearly received all my required responses! I’m glad I decided to leave in some comment boxes, I have received numerous very interesting responses, people do have very interesting reasons, and very interesting thoughts about my survey.
I am still looking for participants, particularly those who do NOT gender-bend in either Second Life or World of Warcraft! If you fall into this, please fill out survey, or pass it on, I’ll still be keeping it open for a while yet!
I have been relentlessly abused in certain forums, but I have learnt lessons, and I have added changes to my survey upon suggestions, I’m not too proud to admit that things could be improved! I really enjoy doing research, I enjoy this line of education, I’ll be a student forever.
Keep reading, I’ll post updates as they come!
Now I need to starting analysing results… this is the difficult part!

Cool, glad to hear that
I’m curious as to see the final results (or even preliminary ones).
Cheers and good luck with all of the work left to be done

Hi Petros,
Thanks for the comment, yeah I will be reporting on my final results when I have them. I’ve had a relatively low response from females, so I’m on a mission now to gather more women to respond!
I’ll report back here when I get some results up! Stay tuned

Hey! I am at this moment also conducting a survey in Second Life. But the response rate is going too slow! Do you maybe have some advice or tips on the distributing? Which channels you used? I am promoting it by classified ads, some fora, looking for ppl myself (cause it need to be newbies of max 4 days residency). And i wanted to place a stand but dunno where possible.
Thanks!!

Hi Amarys!
Well, you have a tough demographic to reach, I have read your blog about this. How many participants do you need?
As the demographic has been very much limited by the ‘4 day old’ residency, the best place for you to visit is the newbie islands. Remain there and don’t leave!
Perhaps some Second Life websites which have forums, have newbie areas in the forums, so you can reach out to those demographics?
Honestly though, I can see how yours would be difficult, but should be achievable, if you stick out in the newbie islands in SL and the newbie areas in SL related forums you should achieve your required response.
Be prepared to get some negative feedback, it happens occasionally on forums in particular! Which disappoints me really, stigma still exists for activities such as SL and WoW, yet they dislike answering questionaires which would further understanding…
Anyway, a little rant, but I hope I have helped you! Good luck!
